Ronny Rose was blessed to see a cross-section of America growing up. Originally born near the Jersey Shore, Ronny has lived in Dallas, Boston, and San Francisco. However, it was only out of sheer luck that he stumbled upon painting at 19 years old
“I was training to become an audio engineer, and a friend of mine wanted me to come over and help her paint murals on the walls of her apartment. I’d never really painted before, but after that night I was hooked. I bought my own paints the next day, and I haven’t stopped since.”
Lacking formal training, Ronny began painting by emulating the work of his favorite artists. Starting with primarily abstract work he now uses abstract techniques to create representational depictions of nature, finding inspiration in his time spent hiking and surfing
“I still throw a lot of paint, but I try to make the paint explode in a manner which appears natural. The abstract blocks of color and lines are my way of still bringing abstract forms to my more representational work. And occasionally painting on wood instead of canvas allows me to not only recycle, but also to be inspired by the forms in the wood itself. With canvas you do anything. With wood you have to have more of a dialog.”
